About Us

Slaughterhouse 9844 (USDA Estab. no. 9844) is a functioning slaughterhouse and meat processing plant located on The Pennsylvania State University – University Park campus.  This building, known as The Meats Laboratory, is operated by the Department of Dairy & Animal Science.  The upper level houses the slaughter, processing, and storage areas.  It also contains a retail store front from which beef, pork and lamb products from the University’s herds and flock are sold, as well as a large auditorium for classes, workshops and other meetings.  The lower level consists of research labs, test kitchens, and offices.
